March 26, 2017.

My classmate, Praise, was having an art exhibition in Lekki. Or at least she said it was in Lekki.

Osa said she knew the estate because her aunt lived there and that it wasn’t in Lekki, but we didn’t listen.

We requested a cab from Osa’s hostel.

Dara, Anjola, and I started complaining about the distance because we felt like we had been on the road forever. Osa reminded us that she already told us that it was after Lekki.

The driver shouted at us for not knowing where we were going to and we told him not to do that.

For some reason, he decided to buy bread and tried to force-feed us. Yes, he bought bread on the road and came very close to stuffing it in our mouths.

We finally got to our destination and he ended the ride.

When Praise asked us what we wanted to drink, we jokingly asked for a juice box for Anjola because she was younger than us. Praise really gave her juice, but she brought it in a glass.

From that day, we started calling her Jola Juicebox.

We eventually discarded the Jola, and that is how Jola became Juicebox.
